Fairway Foodservice will leave Unitas Wholesale on 1 February.
Chris Binge: ‘We have to do what we believe is best for our members.’
Chris Binge, chief executive of Fairway Foodservice, commented: “We did not make this decision lightly, but we have to do what we believe is best for our members to give them the best foodservice product sourcing options we can.”
Fairway joined Landmark Wholesale as an associate member in January 2018, and in November 2018, when Landmark merged with Today’s Group to form Unitas Wholesale, Fairway became an associate member of the enlarged organisation.
Darren Goldney, managing director of Unitas Wholesale, said: “We respect Fairway Foodservice and its members and our open relationship with them allowed a full review of how we can be a synergistically efficient and commercially effective route to market. We mutually concluded that this would be best served by operating as separate group entities and we wish them every success for the future.”
Both groups are communicating the announcement to their respective members and are urging suppliers to be proactive in making contact to effect this change within their businesses.
