Members and board of National Buying Consortium confirmed

Former Confex senior business development director David Lunt is the managing director of the newly-formed buying group, NBC (National Buying Consortium).

Some 23 members of Confex recently left to join the group. NBC chairman is Stuart Lane, sales director of ex-Confex member Lansdell Soft Drinks, of Whitstable, Kent, and deputy chairman is Jason Langmead, managing director of VWT Wholesalers & Distributors of Guernsey, specialising in confectionery, soft drinks and snacks.

Langmead said the idea for a new buying group – mainly for delivered wholesalers, but also open to C&C operators – came to mind about three years ago. “We then brought in David, who is a key figure for us. We describe him as Mr Confex.”

As well as the main NBC group, the new set-up  includes NDN (National Distribution Network) – a central distribution facility for those wholesalers wanting smaller drops.

Asked where the group’s head office is based, Langmead told Cash & Carry Management: “We are currently looking at two possible sites in the Cotswolds. We are also interviewing prospective staff.”

Setting up in the Cotswolds would put NBC in close proximity with Confex, which is based at Moreton-in-Marsh, Glos.

These are the NBC members so far: A to Z Catering Supplies, Anatolian Foods, Carob Enterprises, Centurian Soft Drinks, Chapple & Jenkins, GWD Convenience Distribution, Hardy Brothers, JL Brooks, Lansdell Soft Drinks, M1 Confectioners, Marfast & Co, MB Distribution, MC Wholesale, Mr Crisp, Nasco (UK), Northern Citrus Products, PP Snack Foods, Rainbow Sweets, Right Price (Wholesale), Ryan (Northern Ireland), Snackline Direct, VWT Wholesalers & Distributors and Z&H Distribution.
